NAF DSSC & BMTC Recruitment Exercise: The Difference
There are three categories of recruitment for the Nigerian Airforce, The NAF DSSC, BMTC, and regular combatants. The current recruitment ongoing in the Nigerian Airforce is the Basic Military Training Course Recruitment, it is a short training of about six months. The Direct Short Service Commission recruitment is for degree holders who specialize in a specific field or discipline, and the shortlisted ones will be commissioned into the rank of a flying officer. The last category is the regular combatant.
The major difference is that the NAF DSSC does not have age limit restrictions, but the age limit restriction for the regular combatant is 17 years old and not more than 21 years old, and BMTC is 18 and 22 For non-tradesmen, and 18 and 25 for tradesmen and women. The duration for DSSC is 6 months, Regular Combatant is 5 years [4 years of both academic and military training and one year of dedicated military training, and BMTC is 1 to 6 months. The outcome of the DSSC is that successful candidates are commissioned into the rank of flying officer. The BMTC trainees would become tradesmen & tradeswomen, respectively, for the regular combatant, bachelor’s degree, and a presidential commission to the rank of second lieutenant in the Nigerian Army (NA), midshipman in the Nigerian Navy (NN), and flying Officer in the Nigerian Air Force (NAF).
Nigerian Airforce BMTC Recruitment Requirements 2023
The requirements for the Basic Military Training Course recruitment are quite higher than those needed for the DSSC recruitment. The requirements needed have been summarized below.
- Candidates must be citizens of Nigeria by birth.
- Candidates must be at least 1.66 meters tall for men and 1.63 meters tall for women.
- Candidates need to be in good physical and medical health.
- Applicants must not have had any prior criminal convictions from a court of law.
- Women and non-tradesmen
- By February 28, 2022, applicants must be between the ages of 18 and 22.
- Candidates must have completed no more than two sittings of the SSCE, NECO, GCE, or NABTEB with a minimum of five credits, including English and mathematics.
- Applicants applying as tradesmen and women must be between the ages of 18 and 25, with the exception of those applying as assistant chaplains, assistant imams, and drivers, who must be between the ages of 18 and 28.
- Applicants must have a lower credit in ND/NCE or any related trade certificate from recognized and approved government institutions or organizations, as well as a minimum of two passes and a credit in English in no more than two sittings in SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB.
- Applicants for driver positions must have a minimum of two passes in SSCE/NECO/GCE/NABTEB, as well as a credit in English and a Trade Test Certificate.
- Applicants applying as athletes must provide proof of their experience, such as certificates and medals.
