What is the Renewed Hope Job Creation Programme (RHJCP)?

Following the ineptitude of the Npower Programme, the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has launched a replacement programme named the Renewed Hope Job Creation Programme (RHJCP). It is a social intervention programme aimed at creating jobs and eradicating poverty in Nigeria.

The goal of the five-year RHJCP program is to generate five million jobs for young Nigerians between the ages of 18 and 35. Training and stipends will be given to the beneficiaries for a full year. Beneficiaries will either be assisted in starting their own businesses or transitioned into permanent jobs following the training period.

There are two streams in the RHJCP: graduate and non-graduate. Nigerian youth with a bachelor’s degree or its equivalent are eligible to apply for the graduate stream, while those with only a secondary school diploma or its equivalent are eligible for the non-graduate stream.

Below are the skills that RHJCP offers:

  • Agriculture
  • ICT
  • Construction
  • Creative arts
  • Hospitality
  • Education
  • Healthcare

RHJCP recipients will get a stipend of ₦30,000 (about $75) each month. In addition, various benefits, like health insurance, will be given to them.

For young Nigerians, the RHJCP is a positive development. With more than 60% of the population under 35, the nation has a sizable young population. However, one of Nigeria’s biggest issues is youth unemployment. The RHJCP has the ability to empower young Nigerians to contribute to their nation’s growth and create jobs.

Although the RHJCP is still in its early phases of implementation, young Nigerians could experience a substantial change in their life as a result of it. It is crucial to keep an eye on the program’s execution and make sure it is accountable and transparent.

Why Did the Federal Government Change from NPOWER to RHJCP

The National Social Investment Programme Agency (NSIPA)’s Jamaluddeen Kabir informed everyone of the name change. There was a brief stoppage of N-Power. This was to enable them to verify all of their financial data. This cheque allowed them to get some money back.

The old N-Power employees will be partially paid with this money. In November 2024, they will gradually receive their money. An additional goal is to enlarge the RHJCP. In the next five years, they hope to assist five million people in finding work. They will assist one million youth annually.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu desires this. The Minister, Dr. Betta Edu, will oversee this.
